Regarding the Grey Squirrel question?

Personally i'm all for the cull of the Grey Squirrel they are destroying the Red Squirrels population due to being bigger and taking their food supply.

The argument that it's natural selection cannot be used as the Grey is not a native species, it was introduced by the americans and has run rampant ever since! We have to protect our native wildlife over foreign animals.

Did you also know that our water ways are also being destroyed due to another american invader? The American cray fish was bought over in the second world war for food and some escaped in to the wild. These animals have also caused destruction to our native cray fish which are smaller and they are also on decline.

There is now a full scale cull on the american cray fish as we speak but i noticed that nobody voiced their concerns over that issue or started screaming natural selection or is it more to do with the fact that the squirrel is cute and furry and looks nice.

Your thoughts please.

Regarding the Grey Squirrel question?
Feed the Crayfish (a few days 'off) to the Grey squirrels, they all die!

Do not thank me, it is a gift I can not take credit for.

Regarding the Grey Squirrel question?
I don't really want to go into nice looking furry things lol.

I don't agree with any culls personally, I don't see what gives us the right to kill other creatures to cure our mistakes. If we can manage to find them to cull them, we can manage to find them to remove them and take them back to America.

Whilst we're at it we can take everything else they forced on us back too!
To be honest till i just read your question i had no idea about the American cray fish.As for the squirrel being cute their actually classed as vermin along the lines of rats, neither are cute. There's even black squirrels. End of day it all needs to be sorted sooner than later.
In General if something is perceived as cute then it garners more sympathy from the public. For example, deer and seal culls are done for the benefit of their populations but people get very upset about it but few people bat an eyelid and chavs shooting seagulls with air pistols.
don't get me wrong, I love squirrels, grey and red. But greys are becoming a problem and not just for the reds. My dad has had them invade his loft, they make a lot of damage. When he phoned for someone to remove them, he was told they won't remove squirrels.
As I understand it the biggest threat to the red squirrels survival is loss of habitat. They are specific feeders who are dependent on pine trees for their needs. The grey squirrel is a more omnivorous feeder and therefore more adaptable, ergo more greys!
Perhaps we could suggest a general cull of Americans?

That could solve the banking crisis and all sorts of international political problems
I heard that the black squirrels were knocking hell out of the grey ones now and that red squirrels could be heard laughing their heads off up trees in the Highlands of Scotland.
I agree with Steve T great answer. We have the same problem with Mink too, they were released from fur farms decades ago and are now prevalent in many areas as they too have no natural predaters in this country
just another case of immigrants taking all our nuts
We have the same problem in the US with the English Sparrow.
I would suggest they get shipped back to where they came from.
Shoot all the little buggers
I'm all for the culling of grey squirrels but a fine line must be drawn between what is aesthetically pleasing and something that pulls visitors in. Rainbow trout another American interloper but god forbid a cull should be introduced on it, millions of revenue is made by local river authorities and private lake owners, the mountjac deer another interloper the seka deer and so on, mink and that beaver type thingy with the pink teeth all now call parts of Britain home. Dogs and cats aren't native to Britain either but yet they make up 90 percent of the mammal population. Its sad so much native beauty is left to ruin because of profits
I'm sure they were not forced upon your country, your country took them now deal with it in what ever way you choose.
