Who do grey squirrels compete with?

In the UK grey squirrels are vermin and are driving the indigenous red squirrel to the edge of extinction. Blame the Victorians who brought the wretched things over from America.

They are much more adaptable in their eating, and living habits than our poor little reds...and carry squirrel pox which the reds have little or no immunity to the disease.

grey squirrels occupy a mainly deciduous habitat and are relatively tame opportunistic feeders (a bit like urban foxes)..reds are more arboreal and prefer coniferous woodland..there is no evidence whatsover that culling greys in deciduous areas would lead to the return of reds..wot is prolly leading to the red reduction is the commercial exploitation of quik-grow pine forest and the intrusion of people and HGVWho do grey squirrels compete with?
