What are the homing capabilities of the Eastern Grey Squirrel?

My friend's uncle says that he can capture the squirrels in his attic, drive them 25 miles away and release them in the woods, and this would be far enough away so the squirrels cannot return. I told him that the squirrels have a strong homing instinct and can come back after being released even a long distance away.

Who is right, and what *is* the minimum distance needed to release squirrels before they are unable to return?

PLEASE: If your answer to this question is to kill the squirrels, please don't bother. We aren't gonna kill them. Just release 'em . . . hopefully far enough away . . . we just need to know how far.

Thanks! What are the homing capabilities of the Eastern Grey Squirrel?
If you can capture them great- if not get animal control and they can deal with it.

Once the squirrels are out find where they got in and patch the hole well- very well b/c they are sneaky and clever little things. Clear out the attic, no food, no nests, no babies.

Hopefully with these adjustments the squirrels should be gone.

*edit: Oh, sorry. Well, the afore mentioned steps should help. If you can just take the squirrel far enough so that you can fix the mess, than it should not be able to get back in.

25 miles sounds okay, make sure it's in a nice wooded area with plenty of trees.

: ) Happy trails and good luck
