Grey squirrels can legally be caught and killed by a variety of methods, (RSPCA Website)UK Why is it legal to kill a Grey squirrel?
Becuase they are classed a Vermin, the same as a rat.UK Why is it legal to kill a Grey squirrel?
Only members of registered animal organisations are allowed a Cull on the grey squirrel in fact a huge one is being planned soon, members of the public are not allowed to kill this animal. Our native red squirrel is being killed off with a nasty disease that is carried by the grey squirrel but is harmless to them as they have become immune to it but it is killing the small population of reds. Scientists are trying to find a cure of inoculate to give the red squirrel.
They are classed as vermin here, same as a rat is.


They arent native to this country either and have pushed the numbers of the native red squirrel downwards.


The only place i can think that is free from grey squirrels and a safe haven for the red ones is the Isle of Wight.

If a grey squirrel is taken into a vets or a shelter injured, it cannot be re-released into the wild as its vermin, it either stays in capivity or is euthanased.
They arent native to this country, they kill off our native red squirrels and are considered as vermin. If the rspca rescue a grey squirrel it is illegal to release it into the wild again, it is either euthanised or taken to a wildlife centre/sanctuary.
They are classed as vermin and it is ok to kill vermin by any method you chose. Even if it is a cruel method.





Poisoning Rats is a slow painful death.





Where's the welfare of a living creature in that!





Oh and they don't kill Red's. The virus they carry does that.
Not only is it legal to kill one, If you catch one it is ILLEGAL to release it.





Having said that there is no compulsion to catch them.





They are vermin and must be eradicated to save our native Reds.
They aren't meant to be in this country whereas red squirrels are. They are killing the original inhabitants and they are trying to protect them.
Because they are vermin, they damage trees and kill baby birds. They are also very nice to eat. and mainly because they are not a native species.
Some people consider them to be a nuisance as they damage gardens and will take eggs from birds nests.
They are not native, they are pests. That's why. Apparently they taste good though.
They are originally from America, so aren't supposed to be here in the first place.





I don't agree with it though.
Because they're making the Red Squirrels extinct.
Because they have an attitude problem.
Because they are tasty to eat.
