Why does a grey squirrel nibble and lick clay pots?

Like humans, many animals like the taste of salt. I would guess that the clay used in your pots has a high enough salt content to suit the taste of the squirrel. Why does a grey squirrel nibble and lick clay pots?
maybe its teethingWhy does a grey squirrel nibble and lick clay pots?
bring the teeth down remeber they are rats with pretty tails . the teeth grow all the time
It's like dogs, they taste the minerals in the clay of the pot!
Squirrels are sometimes pests because they chew on various edible and inedible objects; the habit helps keep the squirrel's teeth sharp and also wears them down (rodents' teeth grow continuously.)

Fake owls and scarecrows are generally ignored by the animals, and the best way to prevent chewing on an object is to coat it with something to make it undesirable: for instance a soft cloth or chili pepper paste or powder. Squirrel trapping is also practiced to remove them from residential areas.
