In my hometown squirrels are red. 30 miles to the northwest they are grey. This is exactly where the driftless area starts( its very hilly,untouched by glacial activity)...coincindence?Driftless area a factor in grey vs red squirrel habitat?
The greys will force out the reds if they can. My brother in the UK lives near a pocket of reds, its a wooded area that is surrounded by open fields that the greys can't get to without exposing themselves.
